• Fiction

  Work written in prose that is about imaginary people and events instead of real facts from our world. Subcategories determined by word count.

  • Microfiction

    Works of fiction between 1 and 250 words long.

  • Flash Fiction

    Works of fiction between 251 and 1,000 words long.

  • Short Story

    Works of fiction between 1,001 and 7,500 words long.

  • Novelette

    Works of fiction between 7,501 and 17,500 words long.

  • Novella

    Works of fiction between 17,501 and 40,000 words long.

  • Novel

    Works of fiction over 40,000 words long.

• Poetry

  Works usually written in verse that may or may not be fictional. Subcategories determined by the length of the work.

  • Micropoem

    Poems between 1 and 10 lines (verse) or 1 and 100 words (prose) long.

  • Short Poem

    Poems between 11 and 50 lines (verse) or 101 and 500 words (prose) long.

  • Long Poem

    Poems between 51 and 100 lines (verse) or 501 and 1,000 words (prose) long.

  • Epic

    Poems over 100 lines (verse) or 1,000 words (prose) long.

  Art meant to be used for a particular application.

  • Diagram

    A visual work meant to convey concepts or information.
