Roles are negotiated with others, as opposed to identities, which are self-determined.
You can determine if an identity is a role by adding “of” or “to” and another person to it.
- For example, “sister of A” or “dom to B.”
However, the boundary between role and identity can be blurry. These classifications are meant to be guidelines, not inflexible definitions.
